Meet the Choir

Louise

Music has always been a significant part of my life, particularly singing. During the 10 years that I lived in France, I co-founded a choir and later a thriving music theatre company so I could get my singing fix. When we moved back to the UK in 2018 and settled in Sevenoaks, finding a new musical community was a priority!

Being retired, I’m one of the older members of the choir – the wide age range of our members is great, it’s a real cross section of our community. I’ve been involved with the choir since early 2014, at that time it was part of a network of choirs called Singing Nation. We became Sevenoaks Sings in 2021 and now we’re an independent choir run by its members.

Like a lot of people, I sang in the school choir many years ago and though I got a lot of pleasure from singing I didn’t keep it up as I grew older. I had never learnt to read music and didn’t feel like a ‘musician’ so even though I did still love it, my singing became confined to solo journeys in the car and lullabies to the children

I have always loved singing. As a child, I was obsessed with the TV show ‘Stars in their Eyes’. I loved the idea of getting dressed up and singing my favourite song: “I Can See Clearly Now”. Looking back, my 9 year old self was just too young, too white and too female to be a convincing Johnny Nash!

Colette

I have been in love with singing since a very young age- from starring in nativities in primary school to earning a degree in performing arts as a young adult.

When I was a teenager growing up in Toronto, I was invited to join a city wide choir of school children. At one of the rehearsals,

Music was a significant feature in my childhood and we had masses of records and a huge record player at home.

I moved to Sevenoaks with my husband Ben in 2015. Moving to a new place can be daunting, and we looked for ways to meet people and have fun.
