Like a lot of people, I sang in the school choir many years ago and though I got a lot of pleasure from singing I didn\u2019t keep it up as I grew older. I had never learnt to read music and didn\u2019t feel like a \u2018musician\u2019 so even though I did still love it, my singing became confined to solo journeys in the car and lullabies to the children<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, in the Spring of 2015, a leaflet dropped through my letter box about a community choir looking for new members \u2013 there were no auditions, and no need to read music. It sounded perfect! I was keen but also wary. After almost a year of thinking about it, I finally plucked up the courage and went along for a trial. I was instantly hooked! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, I couldn\u2019t believe it had taken me so long to give it a go.
Now, nearly 10 years later, with loads of different songs and performances under my belt, I am firmly committed to choir. I have even volunteered a couple of times to do a solo – a terrifying but exhilarating experience! I love the challenge of the wide variety in styles of music that we sing and I get a real buzz from our performances. Choir has given me a whole new social group and boosted my self confidence. Monday nights are now sacrosanct.
